About the James A. Herriott Memorial Fund
James A. Herriott was a pioneer and early pillar in the data processing community in San Antonio, Texas. He was a recognized leader in the early days of the then-Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) chapter in San Antonio. He was the Data Processing Manager of Sommer’s Drug Stores (a San Antonio area retail pharmaceutical chain of stores that operated from 1912 – 1977).
The James A. Herriott Memorial San Antonio IT Initiatives Fund Scholarship awards are administrated by the board members of what was the CompTIA AITP San Antonio Chapter. The Fund aims to support IT college/university students specifically in the Central and South Texas, USA region. The spirit of the scholarship fund, which has been around since the 1970’s from the DPMA South Texas Computer Expo event and subsequent chapter fundraising initiatives, lives on by supporting college/university IT students through scholarships and conference/competition attendance grants.
